COMMUNITY WORK
KLEIN SLANGKOP ECO ESTATE, SOUTH AFRICA
Tara is part of the eco committee of the Klein Slangkop Eco Estate in Kommetjie on Cape Point, South Africa. The eco committee has various sub committees dealing with dune preservation, protection of nesting birds, recycling of rubbish washed up on the local beach and a plant sub-committee. The estate was allowed to be developed on the understanding that the delicate ecosystem that surrounds the land would not be disturbed. The estate is located in one of the most beautiful places in the Cape with an incredible diversity of flora, some of which is endemic to the area.
Tara has created an illustrated educational leaflet for all home owners highlighting the importance of protecting the local flora, planting from the recommended plant list as far as possible within gardens and certainly from the recommended plant list on verges.

You can read more about the work to preserve the endemic plants in this estate and in the greater Kommetjie region in pages 3-4 of the newsletter here
IDE HILL PRIMARY SCHOOL
In January 2019 a new classroom was added to the school, leading to the opportunity to create a garden in the playground that had become a building site. Tara designed a plan for the new garden, including a vegetable garden, a sensory garden and a new play area and various seating areas.
